Case study

A 19-question intake, 35,000 times a day.

An Allstate agent network runs its inbound lead qualification entirely through EHVA: a full 19-question intake, live agent matching by territory and risk, and a verified handoff, all inside one call. Nine out of ten callers never realized it wasn't a person on the line.

A lead is only as good as its data

In insurance lead qualification, close-enough data produces a dead lead. A misheard date of birth, an unverified address, or a mistyped email doesn't lower the lead's quality, it kills it outright: an agent can't write a policy on bad contact or eligibility data. The intake here runs 19 questions deep, including some of the fields hardest to collect cleanly over the phone: a full street address with apartment number, an email spelled out character by character, an unusual last name, a date of birth, and driving history that includes DUI disclosure.

Matching added a second layer of difficulty on top of the data problem. Allstate's agent network is territory-based, and the right office for a given lead depends on the caller's zip code, coverage type, risk profile, and which offices are actively taking transfers right then. That match has to happen during the call, not after it, or the transfer lands in the wrong place. It's the kind of problem a general contact center isn't built to solve, which is why this runs through an insurance BPO built specifically for P&C call handling.

Nineteen questions, four live systems, one conversation

The leads come from an outbound campaign: a prospect gets a call, misses it, and calls the number back. EHVA answers, and from there runs the full intake as a natural conversation rather than a scripted interview, sequencing the more sensitive questions after the caller is already engaged. Four API calls fire in the background as the conversation runs: a zip-code lookup triggers an initial agent match, a risk profile built from licensing and driving history refines it, a real-time address validation catches bad addresses before they're logged, and a final call pushes the completed 19-field lead record, with an agent match ID and recording reference, straight into Allstate's lead system.

Address collection is the clearest example of what makes this hard. A caller gives an address, the validation API fires immediately, and if it doesn't check out, EHVA has to ask for a correction in a way that still feels like a conversation, not a caller stuck repeating themselves to a machine. The same discipline applies to spelling out an email character by character. Getting those exchanges right is what makes the rest of the call, including the DUI question and the transfer, land the way it's supposed to.

“We have run high-volume lead qualification programs for years using human agents. The data accuracy EHVA delivers is better. The call consistency is better. And it runs at a scale we could never staff to.”

What happens after the last question

Once the intake is complete and an agent match is confirmed, the caller chooses: transfer now or book an appointment. A live transfer connects the call directly to the matched office, with the full lead summary spoken to the agent before the caller ever joins. A booking gets a time confirmed in the same call, no separate follow-up needed.

“The agents are receiving leads that are already fully qualified and verified. They are not spending the first five minutes of every call re-gathering information that should have been collected before the transfer.”

Results

  • 35,000 qualification calls handled per day, the full 19-question intake completed on every one regardless of concurrent volume
  • 1,200 agent offices served, each call matched in real time by geography, coverage type, and risk-tier acceptance
  • 91% of callers unaware they had completed a 19-question intake with an AI rather than a person
  • 100% address verification coverage, every address checked against a live API before the call ends
  • 4 live API integrations firing per call, agent matching, risk refinement, address validation, and lead submission, without an audible pause
